Located on the southern end of the existing Taos High School campus, this detached auxiliary gym offers students and athletes a premier space for training, competition, and community engagement.
The exterior showcases bold lines and modern materials that create a distinctive presence on campus. Inside, the space is open and flexible, with a layout that supports practice sessions and smaller competitions. Natural light is maximized with an expansive polycarbonate clerestory window. Large sliding doors adjacent to the mats allow for fresh air circulation and a connection to the outdoors during warmer months.
To foster school spirit and community involvement, the gym includes comfortable seating for spectators and advanced lighting and acoustics systems designed to provide optimal visibility for athletes and guests. Adjacent to the wrestling mats, the gym incorporates a flexible space for strength training and conditioning with an option to be converted to a third wrestling ring. The area will be outfitted with specialized equipment, ensuring that athletes have access to everything they need to stay in peak condition. Large locker rooms, office space, and equipment storage are also provided as part of the program.
Constructed of structural insulated panels (SIPS), the structure is energy efficient and easy to assemble, saving time during construction and energy over the life of the building.
The new Taos Auxiliary Gym aims to elevate the existing wrestling program while also acting as a community hub where athletes, coaches, and fans can come together to celebrate the spirit of competition and sportsmanship. The facility embodies the school’s commitment to providing its students with the best possible environment for success both on and off the mat.
Construction is anticipated to complete in early 2026.
