Centrally located within the fairgrounds, the facility’s spacious commercial kitchen and existing liquor license make it a vital community hub, adaptable for a wide range of events.
Formative Architecture partnered with Curry County to revitalize the Indoor Pavilion at the Curry County Fairgrounds.
Our design focused on renovating the main bar lobby entrance and the large event hall. We expanded these interior volumes by removing the ceilings and exposing the building's structure. New glass doors and windows were incorporated to enhance these spaces with natural daylight and views of the new courtyards. The updated finishes include solid wood board wall and ceiling cladding, polished concrete floors, and blackened metal wall panels.
The project involved a complete interior demolition of existing partitions and a full upgrade of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. A new bar concession space was strategically placed to serve both the main bar lobby and the eastern courtyard, supported directly by a new commercial kitchen. This versatile kitchen is designed for direct service to the eastern courtyard and concession areas and can also function as a catering kitchen or a rental facility for community businesses needing commercial kitchen production space. To maximize the budget for improvements to public areas and the building exterior, the project strategically preserved the existing layouts of the restrooms and service spaces.
The eastern courtyard connects food service to the playground with diverse seating options. A shade canopy covers the building entrances and serving lines, which open directly onto concrete paving and concrete paver zones. These paved areas are bordered by a grass-lined landscape bowl to the east, forming the playground boundary.
The western courtyard is designed as the primary entry for formal events like weddings and quinceañeras. It features a shaded building entrance and a standalone shade structure for outdoor music performances, complemented by landscaping and concrete pavers to create a welcoming atmosphere. Each courtyard is designed with secure enclosures that satisfy liquor licensing requirements while maintaining an open, welcoming atmosphere. Fencing and walls were carefully designed to screen ground-mounted mechanical units and service yards.
The pavilion will provide flexible planning for a variety of events, aiming to better serve the community for years to come.
