Angel Fire Liberty Square Conceptual Design

Village of Angel Fire | Angel Fire, NM

Project Description
Conceptual design of community building intended for gatherings, celebrations, and community connection.

Design Team
Formative Architecture + Consensus Planning

Formative Architecture teamed with Consensus Planning to create a conceptual design for the new 16,000-square-foot community building in the Village of Angel Fire, New Mexico.

This space will serve as a dynamic hub for gatherings, celebrations, and shared connection. It will be located at the southeast corner of the master-planned Liberty Square development, encompassing approximately 4 acres directly south of the existing great lawn. Site improvements will include paved drop-off and pick-up drives, a covered and screened receiving/loading area, vehicular parking, pedestrian sidewalks, a raised viewing patio, and a community stepped seating area.

The building's south-facing entrance patio will welcome visitors into a public lobby featuring a reception/ticketing desk, a fireplace, and a banco. This grand lobby will connect all building functions, including a new visitor center, a café/bar/concessions area, an event center hall, restrooms, and back-of-house spaces.

The visitor center will offer open space for exhibits, displays, and brochures, along with two offices, a podcast studio, and a reception area for staff. The 6,000-square-foot multipurpose hall can be divided into two rooms and directly connected to the bar/concessions, kitchen, and dressing room spaces.

The commercial kitchen will be designed to support onsite food preparation for large events. The back-of-house area will include a receiving area and ample storage for tables, chairs, and equipment to support various events within the hall, lobby, and outdoor patio areas. The facility's restrooms will accommodate the building's interior occupancy, with the expectation that additional or portable facilities will be provided for outdoor events. These restrooms may be configured to allow extended access hours, independent of the building's operating hours, to support various Liberty Square events and activities.

The project's design will incorporate durable, easily maintained, and long-lasting materials and finishes. Sustainable features, building systems, and materials will be explored and presented to the owner for consideration. The building's envelope will be designed to withstand the diverse weather conditions of the Angel Fire Mountain valley, with special attention to snow and ice control on and around the building. Commercial-quality components will be used, including high-performance, thermally broken, aluminum-framed windows and doors with bird-deterrent glazing.

Cladding materials and finish colors will complement the natural landscape, and the project will be meticulously detailed to ensure high-quality construction for generations to come.
