Bosque del Apache is a vital wildlife sanctuary that preserves critical resources and serves as an international visitor hub for migrating waterfowl in the desert southwest.

Formative Architecture has been awarded the contract to design and renovate the visitor center campus at the USFWS Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. The project aims to modernize and enhance existing facilities to better serve staff, volunteers, and the public, especially during the annual Festival of the Cranes.

The campus offers opportunities for education, recreation, and celebration of the unique biodiversity within the Bosque del Apache ecosystems. Our design team's goal is to transform and reinforce the campus identity, create flexible community-centric facilities, foster indoor/outdoor connectivity, and improve overall campus operations for staff, maintenance crews, volunteers, and visitors.

We are currently collaborating with Weddle Gilmore Architects and project stakeholders to refine the scope of work and maximize the impact of the available GAOA funds. The project team is evaluating buildings for renovation, expansion, or demolition, with a focus on preserving the historic WPA CCC core campus.

New construction is being considered only outside this vital center.

The contemporary design of any new buildings will be rooted in the surrounding agricultural heritage, featuring thoughtful material selections and durable building systems to support the refuge for generations.
