Formative Architecture + Populous
Eddy County is planning to replace its existing fairground facilities. Formative Architecture has partnered with Populous with the planning and design of these new facilities.
Designed to support both the annual county fair and year-round visitors, the site includes 75 trailer and short-term RV spaces, overflow parking, and a 40-unit RV village for long-term stays. The layout separates public areas from zones dedicated to staff, maintenance, and event operations for smooth and efficient use.
At the heart of the fairgrounds is a shared beer garden and picnic area, complete with a performance stage and direct, accessible connections to both the covered and open arenas. This lively hub brings people together to relax, mingle, and enjoy the show.
The open arena, located north of the beer garden, features covered bleacher seating for 1,500 spectators. A new pedestrian spine links the main arena entrances and aligns them with existing fairgrounds buildings, keeping foot traffic safely separated from parking and vehicle routes.
The covered arena includes seating for 3,000 on each side of the professional PRCA-sized floor. Its upper concourse houses a press box, VIP lounge, and outdoor viewing deck, while the main level provides restrooms, concessions, ticketing, and storage.
Designed for flexibility, the space can host everything from rodeos and concerts to monster truck events.
